Tangeri Hotel

We needed a place to stay in Jaco just for one night. This certainly did the trick. Jaco is getting "built up" as I write this so I am glad we got to see it before it is strung with high rise after high rise. The grounds are lovely, the pool(s) are very nice. We stayed in #201 - beachfront, second floor. The balcony view was out to the ocean, sunset and all (which speaks for itself). The beach there is big (perfect for a long stroll) and still pleasantly uncrowded. The hotel offered decent value at $130 for the night including breakfast and taxes. The room was clean, AC worked well. My one suggestion would be to offer towels at the pool.

“Nice place to stay - Beachfront & center of town”

“Good, clean lodging”

Tangeri Hotel

We stayed at the Tangeri Hotel for 1 night before a cruise. We had a clean and well stocked beachfront room on the 2nd floor facing the ocean. The only problem was a bright light outside the doorwall that shined in all night, I'm guessing for security reasons. The grounds are beautiful and the 2 pools seemed clean. Yes, there are iguanas all over the place but they are more afraid of you than you should be of them. Make a move towards them and they scamper off. We also saw a number of what looked like Jesus Christ lizards (they run on top of water) on the grounds as well.

Breakfast is included with the room rate and we ate both dinner and breakfast at the restaurant connected to the hotel. The food was excellent and very reasonably priced.

Jaco is a surfing town and so there will be people camping on the beach and it might be a little rowdy at night. If you are looking for pristine sugar sand beaches this isn't the place for you. The sand is brown and the water can be rough for swimming. We were there during the rainy season so the water is a little murky. When we go back to Jaco we will definately stay at the Tangeri Hotel again.

“Nice place - had all we wanted”

Tangeri Hotel

Stayed at the Tangeri for 5 nights and had a great time. Although I could not find the hotel at ------ we were pleased to see it's central location in the town. We could walk everywhere (although cab rides were only about $1 in town). The hotel is very spread out on nice lush grounds, we had a beach front room for about $100 a night. Note the beach is still a ways away and is all rocks and leaves little to be desired. If you like the beach Jaco is not your place... The hotel staff is knowledgeable and most speak decent English. The pool area is nice, plenty of iguanas around although one of the people in our party had a severe cut on his foot because of a missing tile in the pool. The AC in the room worked well, showers did not have "hot" water but it was ok since the temperature stayed about 90 F the whole trip. We were on a bachelor party and we never bothered anyone although many families were staying there as well.

Restaurant has good food as well. We went fishing out of Los Suenos and brought back some Tuna which the hotel (see Ronald) cooked for us to order with rice and vegetables for only $2.50 a plate... You just can't beat that.

As for Jaco in general it's a great place for whatever you want to do. Definitely going back and stay at the Tangeri! One thing, the town is definitely growing as there were at least 3 tower cranes in place already (building new condos). The Tangeri still has a small resort town feel to it (and I hope that does not change)

“Great stay at the Tangeri”

Tangeri Hotel

Stayed at the Tangeri last week. I also had one of the six ocean front rooms mentioned in the previous post. But I was on the first floor. A great view except during the weekend when many come down from San Jose and camp on the beach. I can only echo the comments below. The rooms were nice and clean. The large remote control air conditioner was great as it is always very hot in Jaco. Note the free breakfast is only on the two lowest cost selections on the menu. But I had the most expensive breakfast every day and only once did I have to pay any extra. Great place for a Jaco stay.

“Very Good for Jaco”

Tangeri Hotel

We just stayed at the Tangeri for twelve nights in February. I will not be redundant since the last review describes the hotel very well. We stayed in one of the six ocean front rooms. It was soooo wonderful with a balcony overlooking the Pacific and beautiful sunsets. The grounds at this hotel are very nice with a covered veranda, three pools(one for kids), and a nice playground. We were traveling with a three year old so this was great for us. There are iguanas everywhere. The hotel bar near the pool was great although be prepared for a long wait if you order food. They bring the food up from the restaurant at the street and service in Costa Rica is slow. I don't mean that negatively, it's just the way they operate there, very relaxed and never in a hurry. The hotel staff are VERY helpful and provide excellent service. The only small complaint is they have inline electric hot water heaters on the showers which take some getting used to, but this is a small inconvenience. It is so hot there that you probably won't want a really hot shower anyway.

As a footnote, right in front of the hotel, you will find the tour operator. His name is David Shulda and it looks at first just like a diving and fishing operation called the Golden Rod. But believe me, this is much more than just fishing and diving. David is an English speaking American and he can arrange ANYTHING that you want to do in Costa Rica. He made our vacation excellent. I would talk to him everyday and let him know what I wanted to do and he arranged it all. Unless you have been to Jaco lots and you know what you want, talk to Dave and he will get you headed in the right direction rather than trying to deal with unknown tour operators. The fishing and diving are excellent as well as all the other activities offered. Good luck and Pura Vida.
