Surfing
There is an abundance of beach and reef breaks in the Mal País area for surfers of all levels. Our luxury beachfront vacation rentals on Playa Hermosa have many waves within a five minute walk. New to surfing? Lessons are available from professional surf instructors for $40 (2-hour lesson, includes board rental).

Ziplines
Have you ever seen a Costa Rican jungle from above? There are two zipline tours near our Mal País vacation rentals:

Montezuma Waterfall Canopy Tour – 2 hours, $50 per person (www.zumatoursgroup.com)
One of the zone’s premier attractions, this zipline tour follows the Montezuma river and gives you an opportunity to visit the famous waterfalls. There you can take pictures and/or go for a swim in the pools carved by the cascading waters.
Price does not include transportation to Montezuma if you do not have a vehicle ($30 each way, up to five people).

Canopy Tour del Pacifico Mal País – 2 hours, $50 per person (www.zumatoursgroup.com)
Located between Mal País and the Cabo Blanco Nature Reserve on the tip of the Nicoya Peninsula, bordering a beautiful farm, this zipline tour is rather unique, as the surrounding forest is relatively dry rather than rainforest. Enjoy the views of the Pacific Ocean from the treetops!

Soar through the air like Superman - feel the sensation of ultimate adrenaline with ultimate security while flying more than 70 meters high, Superman-style, through the jungles of Montezuma on a 988-meter long cable. Exclusively offered in Montezuma, the only place on this continent! Price: $25; 2pm and 3pm. Enjoy your surroundings the natural way: take a guided horseback tour from the empty beaches of our Mal País beachfront vacation rentals into the mountainous jungle, then into the scenic farmlands of the Costa Rican countryside! Especially special at sunset…
You choose the length and route! 2 hours: $35, 3 hours: $45, ½ day: $55 per person
Or go on an all-day adventure to Manzanillo or Montezuma. $95 per person, min. two people (includes lunch).

Isla Tortuga (www.zumatoursgroup.com)
Take a day trip to the beautiful tropical island, Isla Tortuga! A breathtaking 50-minute boat ride from Montezuma, with an optional stop to snorkel along the way at the best snorkeling site on Costa Rica’s Central Pacific coast, will transport you to the white sand beaches of Tortuga. After arriving you will be prepared a tasty BBQ lunch, while you explore the island. The afternoon can be spent however you like: playing volleyball, kayaking, hiking, snorkeling, or just lying under the coco trees.
Price: $50 including snorkeling. Price does not include transportation to Montezuma if you do not have a vehicle ($30 each way, up to five people).

Isla Tortuga/Curu Wildlife Refuge Combo (www.zumatoursgroup.com)
Instead of leaving by boat to Tortuga from Montezuma, you will first be transported from the hotel to Curu Wildlife Refuge for a guided tour. This is great place to see many animals (including a lot of monkeys) and plant life. You will then leave for the 15-minute boat from Curu for Isla Tortuga, again, snorkelling along the way if you like. After arriving you will be prepared a tasty lunch, while you explore the island. The afternoon can be spent however you like: playing volleyball, kayaking, hiking, snorkeling, or just lying under the coco trees. Price: $80

Scuba Diving (www.zumatoursgroup.com)

Also at Isla Tortuga, the diving here is famous around the world because it is the only area in Central America with three sank boats. Average visibility is 30 ft. to 50 ft. with possibilities of up to 80 ft. Explore volcanic rock formations and swim among white tip sharks, giant schools of grunt, yellowtails, spotted eagle rays, turtles, stingrays, angel fish, octopus, sea horses, starfish, frog fish and many species of eels.
Price:
1 Dive: $150, 2 Dives: $180.
This includes full professional gear, round trip transportation from Montezuma to the Diving spot, full lunch and drinks, professional dive master instructors, and bilingual guides. Price does not include transportation to Montezuma if you do not have a vehicle ($30 each way, up to five people).

Sport Fishing
How would you like to catch your own dinner? Our waters are full of delicious fish, such as blue, black & stripe marlin, sailfish, yellow fish, bonito, tuna, amber jack, Sierra mackerel, barracuda, mahi mahi, wahoo, roosterfish, and snapper. After the fishing guides filet your catch, bring it back to Villas Hermosas’ poolside BBQ and feast like a king!

Quad Rental
If you prefer to be in the driver’s seat and go anywhere you choose, renting an all-terrain vehicle is the right way to go. Rentals are available full-day, half-day, multi-day, or weekly and allow you the freedom to explore the area and discover your own piece of paradise on a secluded beach or a mountain road high above town. Also convenient for trips into town for supplies or eating out if you don’t have a rental car. PRICE $45 half-day, $70 full day. Please ask for multi-day/weekly rates.
